Summer 2017

StageShine (Shine / Little Shiners Children’s Musical Theatre Group)

Mondays at Our Lady of Lourdes 6-13 yr olds : 4.45pm – 6.15pm (£60 per term).  Free trial lesson available Classes start back on 24th April 2017.  Next production will be Alice in Wonderland and an excerpt from Guys and Dolls.  The show will be on Saturday 15th July at Hardeman Hoyle Hall, Hammer at 6pm.

 

Summer 2017 Show at the Liphook Millenium Hall, Sunday 2nd July

This show is for the Saturday Workshops and Festival Groups.  There will be 2 shows, a Junior at 11am and a Senior show at 4pm.  Festival Groups will be in both shows.  There will be a Junior dress rehearsal on Saturday 1st July at 10am and a Senior dress rehearsal on Saturday 1st July at 2pm. Further details at the beginning of the Summer Term.  

 

RAD Ballet Exams

The next session will be at the end of November 2017. 

 

Modern and Tap Exams

We had our main session in June 2017.  Next term we will be joining Godalming School of Dancing as we will only have a few modern and tap entries.

 

Summer School

Summer school will take place on 24th – 28th July 2017, 31st July – 4th August 2017. We will be performing a musical in a week. Please email us for details.

 

Onesies

If anyone would like an HPA hoodie, t-shirt or onesie please order from Marie. They are available in navy, black or hot pink.

 

Dance Shop and Second-Hand Festival Costumes

Marie holds a shop every Saturday at Haslewey from 10.30 – 1.00pm.   Please come and see her if you have items to sell.  The shop also has new dancewear or can order your requirements.

 

A Big Thank You

Thank you to all the parents who helped with our Saturday Workshops Show in July.  It was a fantastic show and all the teachers deserve praise for their wonderful choreography. Well done! Looking forward to the whole school being together at the Princes’ Hall Theatre Aldershot for our 50th Anniversary Show on 8th July 2018. Mrs Cantan has no plans to retire and is looking forwards to celebrating her 60th..70th…80th celebrations!

 

 

Congratulations

As usual, HPA has continued to achieve outstanding success in dance competitions and examinations.  In RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern and Tap exams, the school maintained its track record of 100% gaining Merit or Distinction.  At the British Arts Awards National Finals held in London, pupils competed with dancers from all over the country. In the Group Section, Bake Off, The Prop Box, Evacuees and Mexican Fiesta won first places; Valse Classique, Human Trafficking, Me Before You and On Top of the World gained second places whilst Girl on a Train achieved third place. For individual dances, first places were awarded to Darcy Adams (Modern), Darcy Adams & Sophie Mullee (Modern Duet), Shakira Alleyne & Tia Alleyne (Modern Duet), Martha Woods (Ballet Solo), and Isobel Chatten & Katiana Whatling (Character Duet). Martha Woods also won the Senior Novice All-Rounder award. Achieving second places were Emma Taylor-Eardley (Inter Novice Song & Dance), Tia Alleyne (Modern Solo), Darcy Adams (Senior Lyrical), Martha Woods (Modern Solo) and Sophie Mullee & Maryam Likohugu (Character Duet). Shakira Alleyne and Maryam Likohugu came third with their Lyrical Duet. At the Hampshire Festival, Sophie Weekes won both the highest mark Lyrical Cup and the highest mark Greek,/National Cup.  I’m A Celebrity won the highest mark Classical Trio Cup. At the Guildford Festival, Maryam Likohugu won the National Cup. Finally, congratulations to recent ex-pupils Jerome Barnes  who has been given a full contract with the Scottish Ballet Company, Jessica McCluskey who has just completed a professional West End run of Stepping Out and Sofia Zaman who has been offered a third year at the Royal Ballet White Lodge School following in the footsteps of Jerome Barnes.  On a non-dancing theme, Michelle Breese has just qualified as a doctor.

 

Don’t forget 2018 is Angela Cantan’s 50th year of teaching dance in Haslemere!  Special events are now being organised.  More details to follow.
